Listen
Item Type: Sound Recording Duration: 37 min
Event Type: Inter-Media / Visual Arts Program Origin: KPFA

Sound Sculpture As was an exhibition of 9 sound sculpture/performances, initiated and curated by Tom Marioni on April 30, 1970. The participating artists, all sculptors, were: Peter Macan (sounds of popping from plastic bubble wrap underfoot on the floor at entrance and in elevator); Mel Henderson (firing a gun at a projected image of a tiger); Jim Melchert (30 unanswered telephone rings from two calls placed from outside the museum); Tom Marioni-a.k.a Allan Fish (Piss Piece-- from the top of a ladder into a large tub); Terry Fox (metal bowl filled with water striking the floor, and later a shovel scraping the floor); Paul Kos (amplified sounds of 2 blocks of ice melting, no sound heard); Herb Yarmo (ball bearings rolling down a metal pipe onto the floor; Jim McCready (the sound of 4 women wearing nylon stockings walking and rubbing their legs together); Arlo Acton (audience clicking "crickets" and then a steel ball crashing through a pane of glass). A description of the event with a couple of pictures can be found at: http://www.kunstradio.at/HISTORY/ART_INT/sound_sculpture.html
