The press conference of Seiji Ozawa held at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in San Francisco to introduce the new conductor of the SF Symphony. Ozawa becomes Music Director of the Orchestra in the Fall of 1970. Despite showing up for the conference wearing a "Peace Now" button and making several comments against the Vietnam War, Ozawa reassured those older and more conservative fans of the Orchestra that his intention was to please the audience and not simply to shock them with modern radical compositions. Ozawa also commented on the importance of Youth Orchestra's and the need to hire a highly qualified assistant director to assist in the development of such an orchestra for young people.
