Ron Williams, a student of psycho-acoustics and composer, talks about his experiments with binaural recording, which he hopes will lead toward a process of recording which will exactly simulate the human hearing experience. Williams has designed a model of a human head with two microphones carefully placed inside the fleshy ears. The purpose is to record sounds exactly as humans hear them, including any spatial components. This head was used to record this interview with Charles Amirkhanian as he visited Williams at his home, as well as a number of other locations, including an anechoic (silent) chamber. In order to hear this binaurally recorded program properly, you must wear earphones (stereo headphones). |
