Charles Amirkhanian takes a tour of a show on mechanical musical instruments at the Oakland Museum, which ran from Dec. 16, 1972 thru Feb. 4, 1973. Charles is joined by Gretchen Schneider, Asst. Curator of History, who describes the show, which took almost 2 years to plan and included over 80 instruments representing a cross section of all different device types since the turn of century. Some of the instruments discussed and demonstrated include, the Lyon & Healy Empress Electric Orchestrion, the Wurlitzer Model 165 Band Organ, a Barrel Organ, the Violano Virtuoso, and the Turnaphone, among others. |
