The Changing Face of Igor Stravinsky

Listen
Item Type: Sound Recording Duration: 65 min
Event Type: Interview and Music Program Origin: KPFK

William Malloch illustrates how the performer’s and conductor’s attitudes toward Stravinsky’s music, including those of Stravinsky himself, have changed through the years. This program includes a discussion of these changes in tempo, accent, and other parameters, along with numerous musical examples taken from various versions of the “Firebird Suite”, “Petrouchka”, and “Le Sacre du Printemps (’Rite of Spring’)”, from recordings made during the 1930s to the 1950s by a variety of orchestras and conductors.
