Speaking of Music:
David Raksin, Jan. 28,1988

Listen
Item Type: Sound Recording Duration: 92 min
Event Type: Interview and Music Program Origin: KPFA

Composer David Raksin died in August 2004, at the age of 92. As a memorial tribute, Other Minds presents his appearance in front of a live audience as part of the San Francisco Exploratorium’s Speaking of Music series. Recorded on January 28 1988 at the Exploratorium, Raksin is interviewed by Charles Amirkhanian and takes questions from the audience. Perhaps the greatest film music composer of the 20th Century, Raksin discusses his work on “Laura”, “The Bad and the Beautiful” and other motion pictures; his studies with Arnold Schoenberg; and his efforts to document and preserve the history of film music. Raksin's rapier wit is everywhere in evidence and makes for a most entertaining program.
