The Other Minds Festival 5 began with the “Fanfare” from John Kennedy's “The Winged Energy of Delight” performed by Margaret Leng Tan on toy cymbals. A fitting start for a Festival that would highlight works for toy piano and other miniature instruments. According to Tan: “’Fanfare’ is the prelude from ‘The Winged Energy of Delight’, a four-movement suite written for my toy piano by John Kennedy, composer and co-artistic director of the new music group Essential Music. He thought it would be fun to have me choreograph a grand entrance crashing my toy cymbals!” |
