The career of trombone legend Julian Priester has included contributions to jazz, blues, and Latin jazz, over the the last half of the 20th Century. Between the early 1950s and through the 1970s, he worked with such notables as Duke Ellington, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, Max Roach, Lionel Hampton, Dinah Washington, Muddy Waters, and Bo Diddley. As a composer he has contributed to recordings by Reggie Workman, and Jerry Granelli. Sam Rivers is one of the major figures in contemporary jazz: a brilliant improviser and one of the defining influences of multi-instrumentalism in jazz, performing on tenor and soprano saxophones, flute, and piano.
