Composer-performer Stephan Micus speaks with Charles Amirkhanian outdoors in the bird-filled Bavarian countryside on June 6, 1985. A casual and fascinating discussion that is almost film-like in its effect. Micus discusses exotic German recipes, American military plane sonic booms, and the sound he loves most in nature, flying swans. This program was recorded 36 miles west of Munich in the farm town of Mundraching. Originally broadcast as part of KPFA's series of programs called “The World Ear Project”, which focused on the documentation of ambient sounds. Listeners beware: The program begins with several minutes of idyllic bird calls interrupted by the sonic ejaculation of an overhead aircraft. |
