An Interview with Tom Marioni

Listen
Item Type: Sound Recording Duration: 8 min
Event Type: Interview Program Origin: KPFA

In April of 1970 Tom Marioni founded the Museum of Conceptual Art in San Francisco. In this interview, recorded on April 21, 1970 in the KPFA studio, Charles Amirkhanian questions Marioni about this project, which is less a museum than it is a space for the presentation of performance art and temporary conceptual art installations, as well as a sponsor for street theater and theoretical discussions about the possibilities of human expression. The first “show” at the Museum entailed the audience helping to paint the walls, while the next show was scheduled to be a “concert” by ten sound sculptors. (An event that was recorded and can be heard on the program “Sound Sculpture As” on radiOM.org, one of many such programs produced by Marioni and made available by Other Minds)
