Sound Painting by Sheila Booth

Listen
Item Type: Sound Recording Duration: 113 min
Event Type: Interview and Music Program Origin: KPFA

Sound paintings by Sheila Booth, who was living in Half Moon Bay just south of San Francisco in California at the time this program was recorded in September 1972. She wrote, “For over eight years, I have been a professional sound recordist and sound mixer for motion pictures. While the sound track is literally half of a film, I found that sound alone is a monumental medium in itself...capable of altering the reality of the listener. Starting in 1969, I began to seriously experiment with collage. This experimentation evolved into a new kinetic art, Sound Painting... an acoustic hybrid of electronic music, collage and ambient sound. Acoustic film. Conjuring vivid imagery in the mind of the listener. theatrical aiming and film sense are very important.” (from KPFA Folio)
