Women's Works: Vivian Fine and Her Music

Listen
Item Type: Sound Recording Duration: 59 min
Event Type: Documentary

Vivian Fine, born in 1913, is one of the most significant female composers in the United States. In this program, produced in 1986 by the International League of Women Composers with funds provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, host Lisa Simeone and Vivian Fine discuss her career, composing philosophy, music, and teaching experiences. Some of Fine's colleagues and friends also are interviewed. Much of the hourlong program is given over to Fine's music. The works span her long career, beginning with “Four Songs”, composed in 1933, and ending with “Drama for Orchestra”, inspired by the paintings of Edvard Munch, from 1982. Other pieces include “Momenti” and “Missa Brevis”.
