The Warsaw Autumn Festival of Contemporary Music is one of the oldest and best known musical festivals devoted to contemporary classical music. This recording, from a concert held on Nov. 8, 1962 (or possibly 1963) features performances of Niccolò Castiglioni’s “Aprèslude”, Anton Webern’s last orchestra work “Variations”, and Edgar Varèse’s “Arcana”, the only orchestral piece that Varèse still allowed to be played. The first two pieces are performed by the Polish Radio Orchestra under the direction of Jan Krenz, and the third is by the Polish National Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Stanisław Wisłocki. |
