A piano recital recorded in KPFA's San Francisco studio at 321 Divisadero St., on June 4, 1966, and broadcast shortly afterwards. Mr. Hemmingway was at the time of this recording, developing a loyal audience, and this recital clearly shows why. His performance of contemporary music masterfully combines exquisite musicianship with remarkable technique. Highlights of the recital includes works by Erik Satie, Pierre Boulez, Olivier Messiaen, Ludwig van Beethoven, and others. David Hemmingway graduated from Haverford College in Pennsylvania and did postgraduate work at U. C. Berkeley. He studied with Madame Messina of the Curtis Institute and Alexander Uninsky of the University of Toronto. Hemmingway also studied composition with Henry Cowell of Columbia University. In 1964 he received the Eisner Performance Prize at U. C. Berkeley. |
