Imaginary Landscape:
A Concert by the Extended Vocal Techniques Ensemble (EVTE)

Listen
Item Type: Sound Recording Duration: 116 min
Event Type: Music Program Origin: KPFK

A live concert by the Extended Vocal Techniques Ensemble (EVTE), recorded at the KPFK studio in Los Angeles. The vocal quartet, Deborah Kavasch, soprano, Linda Vickerman, alto, Ed Harkins, tenor, and Philip Larson, bass-baritone, perform a selection of works for unaccompanied amplified voice, as well as works for tape and voice, and one piece, Robert Erickson’s “Kyrl,” which is scored for trumpet and voice. The ensemble, which formed in the mid 1970s, specializes in producing an amazing variety of vocal sounds all without any electronic enhancement or manipulation. During the intermission the members of EVTE discuss their work and give examples of the techniques they use to create their music. After the concert there is a panel discussion with the members of EVTE during which they discuss their personal backgrounds.

This concert was sponsored by the National Endowment of the Arts.
