Charles Amirkhanian is joined by composer Allen Strange, author of the definitive college teaching textbook, “Electronic Music”, and Bernie Krause, producer of the educational “New Nonesuch Guide to Electronic Music” instructional manual and accompanying album. The program starts with recordings of works by Allen Strange, beginning with “The Second Book of Angels (The Thrones)” for string quartet and tape. His collaboration in the realm of children’s theater with Robert Jenkins is also represented with “Boogie and the Beejeez Man”, a children’s story with electronic music accompaniment. Later in the program Bernie Krause joins Strange and Jenkins for a discussion of the “Nonesuch Guide”, replete with examples of different electronic sounds. We also hear Mr. Krause’s music from the New Age jazz album “Citadels of Mystery”. (from KPFA Folio) |
