Morning Concert:
Philip Glass meets Phalen Tassie

Listen
Item Type: Sound Recording Duration: 121 min
Event Type: Interview and Music Program Origin: KPFA

Charles Amirkhanian hosts a variety of characters on this show: "Philip Glass meets Phalen Tassie." A series of outlandish guests, including a preposterous pan-musicologist from London, keep a KPFA fundraising drive entertaining, as Amirkhanian presents excerpts from Glass's album, “Dance Nos. 1-5”, and selections from “Phalen Tassie Sings American Contemporary Songs”. Tassie, a former faculty member of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, displays her unique vocal delivery in works by Aaron Copland, Otto Luening, John Duke, and other mid-century American composers. The program concludes with Glass' “Façades”, and “Chinese Seasons” by Roger Nixon.
