Morning Concert: Infrared Roses: Music by the Grateful Dead |
|
| Item Type: Sound Recording |
Duration: 117 min |
| Event Type: Interview and Music |
Program Origin: KPFA |
Charles Amirkhanian introduces the Grateful Dead at their most abstract and avant-garde. “Infrared Roses,” produced by Bob Bralove, is a compilation of performances taken from the “drumz/space” improvisational portion that came in the middle of the second set of most Grateful Dead shows during the 1980s and 1990s. The album explores the nether tones and electronic trampolines of the subconscious in a brilliantly edited tour-de-force. Grateful Dead lyricist, Robert Hunter, created the names for these stunning examples of free improvisation. Despite a certain amount of time spent on fund-raising and an entertaining discussion on fountain pens, devoted Deadheads, and others, will be rewarded for their attentiveness with Bralove’s informative reminisces about what really went on during a Grateful Dead concert (and Stevie Wonder rehearsals) (from KPFA Folio) |
