Ode To Gravity:
The Music of Larry Parque

Listen
Item Type: Sound Recording Duration: 56 min
Event Type: Interview and Music Program Origin: KPFA

A program dedicated to the music of San Francisco Bay Area composer Larry Parque, who has experimented extensively with graphic notation and mathematical forms in music. Parque, an architect and a member of the faculty of the San Francisco State University’s Interdisciplinary Creative Arts Department was, at the time of this recording, engaged in composing a work for 21 musicians and 21 film projectors. In this program you will hear “Set II” and “Duet from Ellie”, both performed by Mimi Dye on viola and Douglas Blumenstock on cello, as well as a provocative discussion with the composer and performers. The cellist attacks the composer over how much the music depends on the sensitivity and improvisational skills of the performers, as opposed to the vision of the composer. (from KPFA Folio)
