In this edition of Ode To Gravity Charles Amirkhanian presents a selection of art songs by Ned Rorem, interspersed with excerpts from Rorem’s book, “Music from Inside Out”, in which the composer discusses the history and art of song writing. Ned Rorem is a Pulitzer Prize winning American composer. He has written three symphonies, four piano concertos, ten operas, as well as many additional orchestral, chamber, theatrical, and choral works. Yet he is probably best known for his over 500 art songs, in which he has set to music some of the finest poetry ever written.
