Charles Amirkhanian interviews Marin Alsop, conductor of the Eugene Symphony Orchestra, Long Island Symphony, and her own group Concordia, which has commissioned a number of works by contemporary composers. At the time of this interview in 1992, she had just become the new director of the Cabrillo Music Festival. Marin Alsop studied under Leonard Bernstein about whom she shares some of her memories. Although born in New York, she has worked on the West Coast for many years and is very sympathetic to West Coast composers. often performing their works. |
