On October 18, 1972, Tom Zahuranec invited the radio audience down to the KPFA Music Office to communicate mentally with a philodendron which was wired with liquid electrodes feeding impulses into a Buchla synthesizer. His call for audience participation was answered by scores of avid listeners who flocked to the KPFA studios in order to see for themselves just how responsive a philodendron could be. Once there they experimented with the plant by getting closer or farther away from it, thinking good thoughts, and twisting the knobs of all the electronic equipment. This program includes commentary of Amirkhanian and Zahuranec of this unique radio event, as well as the impressions of the participants. |
