2. radiOM.org - Morning Concert The Music of David Jaffe [5.124% Popularity: 0.00000]
Morning Concert: The Music of David Jaffe Listen Item Type: Sound Recording Duration: 76 min Event Type: Interview and Music Program Origin: KPFA Composer-performer David Jaffe has bridged the gap between acoustic folk music and the world of cerebral computer music with a multi-stylistic approach. A lecturer at Stanford University, where much of his work is produced at the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA), Jaffe also worked with neXt Computers on creating new types of music software. His composition “Impossible Animals” contains human vocal timbres in the shape of carefully analyzed bird songs. He is interviewed by Charles Amirkhanian about his career. Also heard in this program is a recording by a 19th century equivalent of Jaffe, the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. (from KPFA Folio) Musical Selections: Telegram to the President, for string quartet and tape (1984) / David Jaffe -- [sample of winter wrens] -[sample of choral music with tape] -- Impossible Animals, for chorus and co...
3. radiOM.org - Ode To Gravity Bon Bonn Bon [5.114% Popularity: 0.00000]
Ode To Gravity: Bon Bonn Bon Listen Item Type: Sound Recording Duration: 52 min Event Type: Music Program Origin: KPFA Originally broadcast on the 200th anniversary of Beethoven's birth, this program would have had the deaf composer holding his head in amazement. An energetic mix of assorted musical genres, this program combines the madness one would associate with the Fugs with the elegance reminiscent of a Chopin nocturne, and with a healthy dose of jazz and a little bit of poetry by Ezra Pound thrown in for seasoning. The show concludes with a work for piano by the Maestro himself. A stunning tour de force of free-form avant-garde radio. Produced by Charles Amirkhanian and Richard Friedman this show also introduces the Harvey Shaw Ensemble of Florida in their West Coast premiere broadcast. Musical Selections: [unidentified mix] -- [an improvisation] / Harvey Shaw Ensemble -- [unidentified piece] / Django Reinhardt -- Nocturne in C Major Op. 54 No. 4 (1889-91) / Edvard Grieg -- Three Spanish Songs and Dance...
4. radiOM.org - Harvey Matusow and the International Carnival of Experimental Sounds [5.089% Popularity: 0.00000]
Harvey Matusow and the International Carnival of Experimental Sounds Listen Item Type: Sound Recording Duration: 111 mins Event Type: Music Program Origin: KPFA Charles Amirkhanian talks to Harvey Matusow about the International Carnival of Experimental Sounds (ICES ‘72), an avant-garde music festival, based on the theme of myth, magic, madness and mysticism, that was held in August 1972 in London. Featuring 46 concerts in 14 days, including marathon performances in an refurbished railroad roundhouse, a music train to Edinburgh, films, happenings, and performances by avant-garde artists, dancers, and musicians from around the world, ICES ‘72 could be considered as a spiritual progenitor of such extravagances as Burning Man. That it was the brain child of Matusow, (with help from John LIfton and the editors of “Source Magazine”), is of little surprise as the man was part clown, part con man, and full time promoter of all things weird and wonderful. Once known as the “most hated man in America” for his role in ...
