The Oakland Symphony Youth Orchestra built for itself a rather impressive reputation during the 1960s, and served as a launching pad for the careers of a number of professional concert musicians, including several heard here. This concert included a selection of classical and contemporary compositions by Felix Mendelssohn, Wolfgang Mozart, Aaron Copland, Lou Harrison, and Alberto Ginastera, and provided plenty of opportunities to showcase the talent and versatility of this group of young musicians.
