Several months prior to the start of its first academic year, Charles Amirkhanian and Richard Friedman visited the school, and talked with members of the extraordinary faculty who were to form the backbone of this remarkable intermedia educational institution. The program features an interview with Cal Arts provost, Herbert Blau, as well as discussions with various faculty members, and the Deans of each of the School’s major departments. Blau explains that the school was to be based on the modern reality of what art is, rather than more traditional academic formulations of what art was, or should be.
