In this recording you will hear two poetry readings. The first, by Ted Berrigan, given in Iowa City on Oct. 13, 1968, and the other by Berrigan and Ron Padgett, given in New York City in 1964. Both members of the New York School of young poets active during the 1960s and beyond, Berrigan and Padgett write short and often humorous poems. In these works, many of which were written in collaboration with other poets, either living or dead, Berrigan and Padgett offer ruminations on the battle over alternating current, dirty limericks, thoughts about war, drugs and sex, and a host of other poetical insights. Their irreverent re-workings of some of the great poems of the past, such as Robert Frost’s “The Birches” and Ezra Pound’s “The Pact” ...
