Starting after the intermission, this portion of the concert featured Ruth Crawford Seeger’s “String Quartet.” This was followed by a selection of hymns originally published in the famous “Southern Harmony, and Musical Companion,” a shape note hymn and tune book compiled by William Walker in the mid 19th century. The concert then concludes with a selection of choral music composed by William Billings in the late 1700s. The performing choir is the Cal State, Hayward Chamber Singers, under the direction of Harry Carter.
