Introduced and recorded by Larry Jackson, this concert, sponsored by the San Francisco Chamber Music Society, featured Franz Danzi’s “Quintet in G Minor”, Joann Feldman’s “Woodwind Quintet”, and Irving Fine’s “Partita for Wind Quintet.” The program then concluded with Arnold Schoenberg’s “Quintet for Wind Instruments, Op. 26” one of his first experimentation's with his twelve tone system for composing. The Lyric Wind Quintet included Roberta Brokaw, flute, Leland Lincoln, oboe, William Wohlmacher, clarinet, Jerry Dagg, bassoon, and David Sprung, French horn, all of whom were members of the faculty at the California State University in Hayward. The concert was recorded live, on January 25, 1982 at the Fireman’s Fund Forum in San Francisco, and featured four 20th century compositions by Carl Nielsen, Bill Douglas, Irving Fine, and Leoš Janáček. All the works are scored for bassoon, oboe, clarinet, horn, and flute, except for “Mladi” by Leoš Janáček which added an extra bass clarinet to the ensemble. Each of the works is given a brief introduction by a different member of the ensemble, in which they provide some background information about the composer and the particular piece. Brant has enlarged upon the musical practices of Gabrieli and Ives to create "spatial music."
